Stable release

The current stable release of the ACX "plain driver" is v0.3.38, which does not support WPA.

If you are feeling adventurous you can also try the mac80211 version, which additionally supports WPA, but has not been widely tested and is still in development. At the time of writing it has not yet been adopted by any distribution.

Download

The latest versions can be found at the sourceforge download section

The tarballs for the stable releases have the canonical snapshot format, namely acx-YYYYMMDD, where YYYY is the year, MM the month and DD the day.

Installation

Follow the instructions at the ACX HowTo. You might also find specific instructions for your distribution on the distribution list.

Development

The state of development can be followed from the development mailing list (gmane mirror) (OSDir mirror, only until 2007-01-29). As pointed out in the list [1], it is also recommended to CC the linux netdev mailing list and now also the linux-wireless mailing list when posting new messages. The archives of these mailing lists can be found here: (netdev archive 1) (netdev archive 2) (linux-wireless archive 1) (linux-wireless archive 2).

On November 2007, the ACX driver project finally started making use of the SVN capabilities of Sourceforge. The SVN repository can be browsed at http://acx100.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/acx100/.

The stable releases are based on the

The current state of development is slow and focused on porting the own implementation of the wireless stack of the Plain driver to a generic stack:

As the SoftMac layer was deprecated in favour of Mac80211, it seems that the natural way should be to concentrate on getting the current mac80211 port into shape to get it included in John Linville's wireless networking development tree and eventually into the mainline kernel.

Support for the proprietary VLYNQ bus was also added in the VLYNQ development release.

The most active development is currently happening at the unofficial git repository at http://acx100.erley.org, which started off from the 20071003 release of the Mac80211 port. The official project benefits from this line of development by sometimes merging changes from this branch.

You can either browse the source code in the repository or get your own copy and start hacking!

Assuming that you have git installed and you are familiar with it, simply issue the following command to clone the repository:

 git clone http://acx100.erley.org/acx-mac80211.git

Also do not forget to follow the latest mac80211 news and information at http://wireless.kernel.org/
